Kwame Darko – "Bet They See Me Now"

Shoutout to DMVLife for posting this one.
Former Terp Kwame Darko has an interesting backstory, at least to me. The guy was a part of the 2008 Men’s Soccer team that won the NCAA Championship. Then, possibly out of the blue, he starts rapping, graduates, gives up a soccer career and shows up opening for Big Sean and hugging up with Hope Solo (yes, I see the haha moment in the tweet). Hell of a transition, if you ask me. But, nostalgia aside, this track is a perfect summer anthem type of track. And, no, I’m not showing Terrapin bias. It’s bombastic with a singalong chorus, it’s full of subtle and blunt references to artists from his hometown/region (“…shoutout to Wale, though/Best believe I’m the next one to fuckin’ blow”), a bit of “started from the bottom,” and visuals that show a good time, but still show the real Kwame.
