While this is an everyone should already know this story, it’s still pretty dope. Kendrick Lamar, fresh off winning several Grammy Awards for To Pimp A Butterfly, has been selected to induct legendary rap group N.W.A. into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on April 8th. The ceremony, airing 4/30 on HBO, features inductions of rock groups Cheap Trick, Chicago, and Deep Purple into the fraternity, along with solo icon Steve Miller. N.W.A., as one of the few hip-hop acts to be inducted thus far, is breaking down a couple barriers; N.W.A. is the first batch of gangsta rap inductees. Could this open the doors for other gangsta rap–and 90s rap in general–pioneers getting their ticket? Only time will tell (I do feel Tupac, Snoop, and company aren’t too far off from getting a nomination, but that’s another story).
Congratulations to N.W.A., to the other inductees, and to Kendrick Lamar.
