Scotty Apex is a Cudi fan. He is a Cudi fan who makes music that sounds like Cudi would’ve dropped it himself. Even with that in mind, Apex’s Anxiety project is diverse and different enough to escape the “copycat” moniker. What makes Scotty Apex stand out to me is that like Cudi, he’s open as hell about his mental struggles. But, he does so in a way that still has a lot of radio-friendly sensibilities versus completely going off the musical deep-end as Cudi does at times. The nineteen-year-old Indianapolis native, if he keeps this up, is one people should probably keep an eye out for.
