I’ve always got a soft spot for DIY hip-hop. I mean, shoot…I was the “No-Fi King” for a while. So, when this one came across my desk–er…my inbox–I had to check it. Corina Corina is a Oakland by Brooklyn artist that decided to create a tribute to Run the Jewels that also speaks on her personal growth, struggles, and more. While it’s not RTJ, it doesn’t need to be. It’s more of a “hey, let me put my spin on this to pay homage and speak my peace” versus “lemme do my version of RTJ.” It’s personal as hell, and has a lot of bluesy, braggy, and sexy (without being just sexy) energy versus just boombastic bars; great for those early morning smoke sessions, when you’re taking a long draw off your drug of choice (if you’re into that sort of thing).
