Over a beat that sounds straight out of early-to-mid-2000s Roc-A-Fella, Baltimore artists Jay Wyse, YG Teck, and FMG Dez go “Back 2 The Basics.” The posse cut goes in deep, especially because of the instrumental. Additionally, the track talks on that “real”–without glamorizing it–that’s often missed in a good portion of rap these days. As it’s not all about turning the fuck up, there needs to be a balance. Wyse and his cohorts are bringing some of that balance by, again, going back to the basics of hip-hop including dope beats, lyricism, embracing the struggle while still wanting more than the struggle, and collaboration.
