As someone who deals with mental health issues throughout my life, I always give an ear to artists who are struggling with them as well. With that said, I got this track from San Francisco’s own Watzreal, “My I.D. Pt. 2: Shadows,” from my brother from another TOPE and I gave it a viewing. The Tone Jonez-produced, Luis Montoya-directed visuals are from Watzreal’s 2016 album THE: The Human Experience.

Taking an opportunity to spread awareness on the topic of depression, Watz takes to his hometown of Berkley, CA to give listeners a raw and gritty feel to his new video. Following up his most-successful release to date, “Nostalgia” featuring the legendary Gift Of Gab, Watz is wasting no time giving music out to the people with his new release. For me, “Shadows” reminds me so much of my own track “Dreaming (The Breakthrough),” especially because of its breakdown of the stages of Watz’s mental health issues and the progression of the beat. With that in mind, I definitely give this one a thumbs up. So, check out “My I.D. Pt. 2” below and remember to support dope music in all its forms.
