New SOTBMusic: Snowy Joey Delivers Cold Bars in the Summer with Snow 4

I’ve got to give a huge shoutout to Julie Stevens of FlowsforDays.com. She does her due diligence when it comes to dope music, especially Midwest underground hip-hop. Specifically, she’s introduced me to a lot of artists from the Chicago area. In short, when she suggests I check something out, I usually do and I’m usually happy I did. That was the case with Snowy Joey’s Snow 4 project.

I’ll be honest. I don’t know too much about Snowy Joey other than he’s a rapper from the South Side and had a pretty tasty jam in “Bad Boy.” However, I do know that he’s got an ear for beats, a brain for bars, and a heart for making stuff that’s catchy but still wordy and full of wordplay. This project is summer vibes throughout, with energy that feels like a mix between Chance and Shy Glizzy. Essentially, there are sing-songy moments and positive energy all through the project, but there’s an edge to it all. A definite must-listen on this project is “In Closing,” the outro, which touches on family issues, trust issues, and the evolution of a young man.
