Over a boombap beat that sounds like it samples a distorted music box, Aaronic Dorsey’s “Time is Ticking” feels like what’d happen if Kendrick did “Git Up Git Out.” That’s the best way to describe this one without giving too much away about the song.

Sonically, I enjoyed the instrumental as it gives the lyrics that much more oomph in the sense that time feels like it’s slipping away from Dorsey while he’s speaking on wanting more out of life. The ultimate question becomes “will he get it before his time is up?” I think that, by the end of the track, we’re given a more-mature, more-ready-for-the-world version of Dorsey as he accepts that time is finite and he should make the most of his time here.
