“Give them their flowers” is less a cliche at this point and more a way of life. As we’ve seen over the past few years, life can literally change in an instant. Additionally, those flowers, especially if they’re grown through a bit of strife and difficulty, they smell that much sweeter. This is, to me, what Classic Williams is getting at on the boombap-heavy “Roses of War.” The song, lyrically, reminds me of Wale when he spit spits or even Wiz when he spit spits about things besides weed and chilling.
