Five Fingers of Funk Speak on Being “Big in the Nineties”

The Covid era has been beneficial for music. Not only have people realized they can record anywhere (even more than before), they’ve also become more knowledgeable about music as a whole. Maybe it was Verzuz Battles, maybe it was boredom. Either way, we’ve been able to rediscover a lot of great music. Enter Five Fingers of Funk, a ten-piece live hip-hop band (a la The Roots), whose “We Were Big in the Nineties” featured the group’s original line-up. That’s pretty damn awesome–especially when you’re coming with bars like these. If you’re intrigued, check out the homage-heavy video above and support dope music in all its forms. This is the first song off the group’s upcoming Portland Say It Again LP, due out in May 2023.
