I was introduced to this one because of its “new age ‘Square Biz’ vibe. I definitely see where they’re coming from. “Square Biz” was a danceable-but-sexy classic jam about, well, getting down to the nitty-gritty of a situation and neither party wasting time BSing around. At least, that’s how I’ve always interpreted it. I’m 34 (35 in August), so I could be entirely off the mark. Anyway, Thee Angelics are South Florida-based singer/songwriters who have a very unique sound. That’s actually underselling it, in my opinion.
Sonically, it’s like a combination of Teena Marie mixed with a bit of Silk Sonic. That is, it pays homage to the greats like SS and can stand outside of any shadows like Teena Marie did. “Body in Motion” is playful, fun and sexy. It’s seemingly a track about being free and vibing along with the right person (or people) and just seeing where things go. I’m here for that, because not everything needs to explicitly be about having sex–though I appreciate a good babymaker like anyone else born in the 80s and (early) 90s.
I also appreciate the rap from Damn Dirty, as it adds another element to the song. It creates a bit of a dialogue between the male and woman voices and has them trying to figure out what’s the best way to proceed. I mean, the vibe’s definitely there–but sometimes you’ve got to figure it out. Check this one out below and support dope music in all its forms.
