Lumikools, jonnychang and sweatyhands Present “OBLONGATA” Visuals

A few months ago, I wrote about jonnychang’s “OBLONGATA” (which featured Lumikools and sweatyhands). Specifically, I wrote about how the song speaks on family and mental health. I loved the song, as I typically do with songs from jonnychang. The brother is incredibly talented and his concepts are always top-tier. The simple-yet-effective visuals for “OBLONGATA” are no different.

The visuals feature several generations of jonny’s family, showcasing that family is good for one’s health. It’s also a prideful song, in that we get to see jonny showcase his family in an amazing light (one that lets people know that his family made him the artist he is today). That said, the song and the visuals also out that mental health, while difficult, can be made more manageable with some sort of family around you. Again, the visuals are a bit simple (but they’re no less dense than some of jonny’s earlier projects). The way the video’s shot at points (with a lot of above shots), for me, symbolizes jonny’s ancestors peeping in on him and the rest of the artists and family. That aspect makes the visuals (and the song itself) that much more powerful. It also helps add to chang’s mission of putting positive Asian representation in the world (something that I’m definitely here for).

This is one you need in your playlists (visually and musically). I really don’t know what else to say besides this: “the song is freakin’ amazing and makes you want to check in on your own family, blood or otherwise.” Check it all out above and remember to support dope music in all its forms.
