Raelle’s “Oh My Days” Pays Homage to Her Roots and Speaks Truthfully About Pain

A cut from Raelle’s Bloodlines EP, “(Oh) My Words” is a solemn sort of song about escaping pain, wanting to return that pain and growing past said pain. Raelle’s vocals are lovely, in the sense they remind me of HER mixed with a bit of Jill Scott. There’s sadness in her voice, but there’s also hope. Yes, she fears that her best days are behind her because of this hurtful person. She also finds solace only in the past, when things weren’t so darned destructive and mentally exhausting. However, she sees the light creeping in, albeit a bit slower than expected.

The title of the track is a London slang term, seemingly like an “OMFG” in America, that is used when someone’s incredibly exasperated. I think it fits–and not only because the pitch says so. I love her songwriting, as it also brings out the pain she’s feeling. You see a woman who’s trying her damnedest to grow past the pain, you see someone who’s hardened herself, but is willing to try to learn how to open back up.
