A minimalistic track, RWP’s “Thirsty” is, well, a song about wanting people you can’t really have (on its surface). The rest of the subject matter goes deeper than just hookup culture, at least to me. The song features Angelrose’s vocals cutting through the sparse production to detail the feelings of being “thirsty” for someone late at night while also trying to find peace and figuring out “what one really wants” in the middle of the night.
For me, late-night “u up?” texts are about getting The Shawty to bone me about, maybe, 3% of the time. Most of the other 97%, it’s because I can’t sleep, my melatonin has wore off hormonally, I just want to let her know how much I treasure and love her, or I’ve got some s*** on my mind that I kinda have to get off to feel at peace. I try not to do the latter all too often because no one, me included, wants to wake up to a sea of blue and not fully understand WTF is going on. So while I’m a “drunk text Romeo” at times (shoutout Gym Class Heroes), late night “Ima hit you up”‘s are mainly me just having to get something off my chest.
“Thirsty” lets, as the group said, lets listeners “ask themselves what’s truly satsfying.” Yes, sometimes, we’re horny at 11:56 PM and want someone to cuddle us and f*** us back to sleep. However, if you’re up at that time, what do you really want? That’s what RWP asks throughout this neo-soul meets alt-pop song. Sonically, the song is incredibly. Its minimalistic approach allows for the vocals and lyrics to hit you that much harder. Then the Spanish-rapped verse? It not only lets this become a universal track, it adds another element/opinion on “late-night thirstiness.” At the end of the day? This track is one you really need to peep, even if you’ve never hit someone up in the middle of the night. Here it is below and remember to support dope music in all its forms.
