A self-described “self-power hot girl anthem,” “Be Grateful has the right amount of 90s R&B, 2000s pop and even a bit of throwback soul. Sonically, she first reminds me of Frank-era Amy Winehouse. Maren has Amy vibes to me with the wit and sardonic nature towards foul-living people, plus both Frank and “Be Grateful” are breakup anthems/breakup albums. Secondly, she kind of reminds me a bit of Ari Lennox mixed with H.E.R. The song has awesome songwriting and an overall positive vibe.
“Grateful” is one of those songs that’ll get stuck in your head and you end up singing it when you’re trying to psych yourself up to take on the day, take on a snippy co-worker or deal with the last F-boy that tries to play with your emotions. If you identify as a hot girl, ladies it’s almost Hot Girl Summer. It’s time to dump those winter boyfriends and girlfriends and live your best life. Or, if they’re cute and not F-boys/F-girls, send them our way. I said what I said. “@” your baby mama’s third cousin, twice removed.
Anyway, before people think I’m trying to force my sexual identity on people, the song is fire. This is the point in the review where I do my wrapping up. So, if you’re ready for a hot girl summer, check this one out, tell that F-person to kick rocks and support dope music in all its forms.
