There’s a difference between living and being alive. For me, “living” is just doing your mundane tasks, not shaking the world or the room and dying without really seeing everything that’s out there. “Being alive” is the exact opposite. Recently, I’ve started actually being alive, enjoying things I never tried, living truth and just putting the idea of “oh I just want to be ‘just okay'” to the fire and watching it burn. It’s a great experience, one that Yay Moody also feels strongly about on his track “Alive.”
“Alive” is a mix of Bay Area vibes, flows and swagger with conscious bars about living life to the fullest. I’m here for that from a sonic standpoint, first of all. The production incorporates an acoustic guitar and some booming bass. Plus, there’s a vibe that feels straight out of a track that has a helluva lot of “Spanish guitar”-like elements. This multilayered-but-minimalistic beat allows for Moody to just flow and float while spreading positive messages that center around the phrase “live your life.”

Lyrically, there are some great rhyme schemes and thoughts put out there. I absolutely love the vibes on this one. They sound like a mix of Nipsey, E-40 and Chance the Rapper, if that makes sense. They have that West Coast vibe, that unique Bay Area sound and are pretty darn uplifting while still having fun. Plus, positivity on a Monday is always welcomed on SOTB–and for myself in actuality, too. You need all the positives you can get. Hell, I have some motivational packets of Splenda on my work desk to remind me to be alive versus just living. If you’re alive, things happen (usually for the better) and you can enjoy this crazy train we call life. Check out the song and support dope music in all its forms.
