According to the lyrics for “Lost Myself” and the brief bio I received, FOE Brazy’s story could’ve gone even further left than it did. Convicted of robbery at 16, Brazy was released from prison a bit ago. Instead of going back to the life that put him in jail, the young Atlanta artist sought to educate and turn his life around so that he could “build a lasting legacy.” Thankfully, he’s here to drop this song.
“Lost Myself” is a melodic rap song with more heart behind it than some songs of the subgenre. For comparisons, SOTB Faithful can look to hear something along the lines of a Lil Baby, NBA YoungBoy or Lil Durk with a beat that kind of reminds me of something you’d hear Roddy Ricch float over. “Myself” details everything Brazy went through, how he wants (and tries) to live in the light these days and how he wants people to learn from his mistakes.
Essentially, he’s walking his story out to the world, so that those who come after him may fly higher (going back to his desire to make a legacy for himself). That’s definitely seen within the lyrics Brazy gives us. They’re very sound and layered. Additionally, they are a testament to how some melodic rappers–and the stories they tell–belong in the discussion for BARS-type tracks. “Lost Myself” grabbed me on a personal level as well (as I don’t write about it if it doesn’t touch my soul). While I’ve been out of the streets in any way and have had a permanent roof over my head for over twenty years, the song makes me thank my own lucky stars. As I said earlier, life can go left in an instant. Things can sour at a moment’s notice, whether you’re in “that life” or not. It’s imperative that, if you made it out the mud, you stay of the mud, you thank God or whomever you pray to and use that experience to grow and teach others.
If you’re intrigued by the description I’ve laid down, I recommend that you check out the track below and support dope music in all its forms.
