Neonburgundy Takes Control of “The Boy’s Soul”

A song described as being “perfect for steamy nights during Pride Month,” “The Boy’s Soul” takes its name from an It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia episode. Seeing that I’m not that familiar with Sunny, I had to look up the episode this song takes inspiration from (“The Nightman Cometh”). Thankfully, you don’t need an extensive knowledge of the show to get into its groove.

It’s, quite honestly, a freaky-ass song. And that, SOTB Faithful, is hard AF (I said what I said) to do when you’re also balancing humor and sweetness with raunchiness. What makes this one a song meant for the bedroom is simple. “Soul” is about a man who’s dominant in the “outside” world, but submits willingly and fully to our vocalist when it comes time to do the deed. Seeing that Neon’s a pretty boy, I honestly wasn’t expecting the song to get that freaky. I’m not saying pretty boys can’t get freaky. However, the instrumental sets up to be very sensual compared the the vocals.

Also, I wasn’t expecting the brother to, well, steal his partner’s soul in lyrical and potentially physical form. The hook grabs you by the neck as it plays compare and contrast. Mainly, it contrasts the “innocence” of their relationship with the unbridled “f*** me stupid” vibes they have when the lights are off, continuing that mix between humorous and sexual. Damn, Neon wasn’t lying when he said that this one’s for those “steamy nights.”

I’m here for that, as some sex songs get a bit redundant. Like, how many ways can you say “I’ma beat that [kitty] up” in one song before it becomes a cliché to end all clichés? I’m here for everyone getting their [Big O]. All genders, all orientations, all kinks (within reason; I don’t wanna hear any “scat” sex songs) and so on. Check out “Soul” above and support dope music in all its forms.
