The first thing I noticed about this track from j.aaron, aside from its funkiness, is that it reminded me a bit of late-70s/early-80s Prince. The multilayered vocals that make it sound like there are several people vibing along, the bassline, the sexy attitude, the “let it all out” swagger. It all felt very Prince-esque. I mean that in the best way possible, as anyone who can make me think of Prince, like Big KRIT, gets my attention.
The song has a vibe of “Darling Nikki” meets “Blurred Lines” (minus the weirdness of “Blurred Lines”) to it, as the storytelling here is excellent and the song walks that fine line between contradicting itself and not contradicting itself and going all the way with this woman–regardless of how it’ll end up in the morning. I absolutely dig the way this one blends funk, a bit of soul, R&B and a touch of pop. Again, it’s Prince-esque (to me). Heck, I’d be sad if j.aaron didn’t go crazy with the multiple components of the song. Check out the song below and remember to support dope music in all its forms. j.aaron’s got my attention, that’s for sure.
