Greetings, SOTB Faithful. I’m sure that the artists listed here don’t really need an intro (if you’ve followed my site for years, at least). Lex sent this to me a little bit ago, only because I’ve admittedly loafed on checking my SOTB email. That said, every artist should just submit via SubmitHub. It’s easier for everyone. Plus, I also take free submissions if you’re not looking for paid writeups.
“When It’s All Said and Done” is the lead single for Lex and Cruz’s upcoming collaborative album. Lex has been super busy (as has P.Cruz), so I’m definitely here for these two collaborating again. Sonically, it’s like later Mac Miller meets a bit of 90s rock angst (think more RATM) meets gritty truth raps. It’s in your face, but also a bit despondent in its delivery.
The song asks a simple, yet very loaded, question: when it’s over, what did you do and was there any point to it? Did you sit there, just being alive? Did you live a glorious life? Did you try to help someone who needed it (even if they wouldn’t admit it). The answers to these and other questions help carve out your legacy in the Game of Life. If you’re out here just existing, your legacy will be “hey, I was a big ol’ pile of bones for 84 years. Ah wellp.” If you’re an a-hole to people, that’ll be your legacy. It’s one of those tracks that’ll make you think just as much as you’ll let the melancholic guitars and Cruz’s emotional, downtrodden hook (it’s Autotuned, but I get why).
If you’re like me and you need some booming alt-rap in your life this beautiful Monday morning, do what I did. Check this one out below and support dope music in all its forms. And, yes, I’m serious. Submit all songs to my SubmitHub. I check that more than Twitter at this point and it’s usually where I get my new music.
