Lex Rush and Crew Give Listeners “Bars for Bars’ Sake”

On “Bars for Bars’ Sake,” Lex Rush and her rapping cohort give us, well, a crapload of bars. Funny bars, conscious bars, multilayered bars, multisyllabic bars. Essentially, if you want rappity rap just for the sake of hearing people flex their verbal and lyrical muscles, this is the song for you. Mind you, of course, that I mean that in the most respectful and amazing way possible. There’s nothing insincere or “rap nerdy” about this one; it’s just dope bars over a smooth boombap beat for about four minutes. You can spend four minutes doing dumb ish, or you can spend it (like I just did) and stimulate and activate the left and right brain with “BFBS.”

Lex never misses on tracks she’s given me (and listeners like me) over the last damn near twenty years I’ve known her and, like fine wine, the NYC rhymesmith continues to get better with age (kind of like a certain “quick on a production” journalist some of you love to read). Joined on this track by her album-mate P. Cruz–as well as rappers Dex McBean, Laviish Lavoe and D-Nasty ThaMasta–“Bars” is, simply put, an example of lyrical exercise with words that could reach the upper echelon. Kendrick reference aside, the song legitimately is one of those tracks you’ll probably break your friggin’ neck to if you’re into this style of hip-hop. Heck, it’s still worth a listen for the wordplay even if you aren’t a fan of super-lyrical rap.

Check out the track below, check out Lex, P. Cruz and everyone here on all DSPs and remember to support dope music in all its forms.
