Copywrite Pays Homage to Sean Price on Latest Song

On “White Sean Price,” Ohioan (Columbus to be exact) rapper Copywrite creates a perfect homage to the legendary Sean Price. A song that has a mix of poignant moments and thumping bass, “WSP” is a lyrical exercise mixed with some eccentric and trippy images greenscreened behind Copy. The visuals match the off-kilter bars, as they, like Price’s, have a bit of realistic outlandishness to them. That’s to say, the bars have so many intricately batsh*t insane elements that they can’t be anything but be true. Additionally, the beat has that gritty East Coast feel to it with a pinch of Midwestern swagger as well.

Sean Price is also seen in the intro as, well, “Sean Lives On.” He lives on in the people he helped mentor, those whose styles he helped foster, and people who just love–pardon the cliche–that “real hip-hop” sort of vibe. No, that’s not saying melodic rap isn’t hip-hop. I’m just saying that there are people who prefer boombap and gruff bars over autotuned raps. Like what you like.
