I’ve got to start off and say that I do enjoy this one–a lot. A mix between Coi Leray, Missy, MIA and the alternativeness of an early Doja Cat, “Do It” is a love letter to the ’90s mixed with a Hot Girl Summer anthem. Between the various visual and audio references, “Do It” might as well have brought out the Starter jackets and your FILAs.
…Oh, y’all didn’t have FILAs? Just me here right now? I call cap, but cool.
Moving on from my trip down Memory Lane, this is honestly one of my favorite types of summer songs. That’s because it’s a track that has some conscious elements, a lot of fun to the point you see it bouncing off the screen, a bit of nostalgia and it’s all over a booming beat. What makes this one also stand out to me is that it seems that Mercy did literally everything on this one. From the vocals to the visuals, this is a very DIY sort of song. Its nostalgia is strong, but it’s made stronger still by its lyrical content.
If you’re like me and you’re a bit more visual, check out the track below and support dope music in all its forms.
