Kay.Swiz Presents “Symphony”

I’m still not completely sure what constitutes as “disco rap,” the subgenre Kay.Swiz’s “Symphony” was stated to fall under. From what I’ve heard, it takes funky melodies, electric production, boombap-esque lyricism and a mix between conscious rap and party rap. In other words, it’s right up my alley in terms of things I’d want to talk about. It kind of reminds me of a mix between KAYTRANADA and Dilla in terms of production and alternative rhymes when it comes to the bars. On “Symphony,” Kay sets out to give listeners a “new wave in hip-hop [and] pop,” which is what’s done here. The lyrics are top-tier, as they make you want to bob your head–as well as just absorb the lyrical exercises that take place throughout the song. It’s so laidback, but also high-energy, lyrically sound while also being vibe-heavy and full of fire lyrics while also giving listeners some food for thought. All in all, it’s a song that you should definitely give a listen to. If you’re intrigued by the concept(s) I’ve spoken about above, check out the song above and support dope music in all its forms.
