“1 Question” is a song about the rise of hip-hop, both worldwide and within the Southern US. While speaking on the evolution of rap (and its pluses/minuses), “1 Question” also pays homage to the OGs and the originators. This is all while informing the next generation that they can’t (nor should they try to) fake the funk when it comes to being truthful. Its mood is also quite celebratory in other ways.
The visuals feature Lex in front of murals and scenes of people enjoying hip-hop dispersed with each other. Considering that (as I’ve mentioned previously over this year) hip-hop celebrated its golden anniversary in 2023, Lakaiser’s lyrics and storytelling abilities here help encapsulate what it means to be born into and live the culture (specifically hip-hop). It’s a simple premise, but one that’s masterfully laid out through this track and its visuals. If you need one more positively-leaning rap song in your ears (which I hope you do), check this one out and support dope music in all its forms. If you rock with “1 Question,” I recommend checking out the album in its entirety (below).
