We all have our criteria for what makes someone the GOAT. Zimbabwean-born, New Zealand-residing artist Fungai makes his own claim to the title on this appropriately-named song. First of all, I love the clean rap nature of it. He has a flow, one that hits hard without dropping a slew of four-letter-words. As I’ve said before, sometimes you need something that you can play around your grandparents and your kids.
The flow is razor sharp and the bars help push along the main idea of the song. Featuring L33ze, “Goated” also features production that feels right out of the mainstream side of things. That typically wouldn’t be a good thing, as it’d be more that “I could get this fifteen other ways.” However, here? The production and the flows show that we can use those beats for many lyrics. It’s like hip-hop as a whole: it can teach, it can destroy, it can build–it all depends on who has it in their hands.
