Butch Vega Presents “YESSIR”

Colombia-American/Latinx artist Butch Vega’s “YESSIR” reminds me of a Mac Miller sort of track. Admittedly, that’s a bit of a cheat code, as Butch mentioned this in his pitch. Nevertheless, the comparison is an apt one. It’s a mellow-but-still-upbeat song that blends positivity, knowing one’s worth and a bit of truthful sh*t-talking over guitar-centric instrumentation, a la Mac or Russ.

Sonically, it reminds me of 2010s-era Atlanta-centric rap mixed in with the smoothness and heartiness of a young man who’s been within the sphere of hip-hop since his birth in Bogota. Overall, this is one that’s intriguing but also gives a lot headnod-friendly moments. If you need some positivity in your life–while also realizing/remembering that you are THAT [person]–I think this one does that quite well. I’m really looking forward to Vega’s upcoming work, as this one paints the picture of a man who knows where he rightfully belongs in the world.
