Strand of Rope Presents “Good Day” with MiC Tha Goodkid and Tanjint

Multi-instrumentalist Strand of Hope’s “Good Day” blends jazz rap vibes a la ATCQ, positive lyrics and a dash of loverman raps. This is because of the artist’s instrumental being a love song to life with a jazzy edge, specifically its melody and its boombap sound. Add this to sing-songy vocals and some bars about life, its positive moments and an overall feeling of “I’ll make things better for you, partner of mine” and you’ve got this head-nodder with a soul. Sonically, it also reminds me of a Below the Heavens-era Blu song, specifically the bars and the flow on the second, more traditionally-rapped segment of the song.

The song is the sum of its parts–which is a pretty hefty number, musically speaking. If you’ve got that special someone–even if they’re not your boyfriend/girlfriend in title–you strive to bring them and be their peace. That’s the overarching message of “Good Day.” The lyrics essentially say “even when the outside gets crappy, just know that I’m still here with you and for you.” And that, SOTB Faithful, is the earmark of a banger to me (realistic and positive lyrics/mindsets). Check it out above and remember to support dope music in all its forms.
