Mega Ran has, as long as I’ve known of him, been one of my favorite artists. He’s dope in many ways and manages to turn every topic he touches into gold, nerdy and otherwise. Because of his multitalented nature, the multihyphenate artist has been busy these last few years. Between fatherhood, a bevy of wrestling and non-wrestling-related tracks and a constant output in every other avenue, he’s everywhere. Personally, I wouldn’t have it any other way. Enter his latest cut, “Gimme The Fruit,” which features fellow artist Whitney Peyton. In a mix between boombap, trap and family-friendly hip-hop, Ran and Peyton present an idea that’s both novel and very important: the need of a balanced diet.
The fun video features Ran and his co-star in various stores and markets fawning over the variety that exists within the world of fruit. You’ve got plums, peaches, apples–heck, even tomatoes. All of these yummy treats help you stay healthy and can enhance every meal they’re a part of. Taking references from Biggie’s “Gimme The Loot,” “Fruit” is the positivity we need in the world right now. The bars are great and have quite a few multisyllabic rhymes. The beat knocks. Plus, you know, fruit is frickin’ delicious and quenches thirst as well as gives you sweetness that can’t be beat. Except prunes. They’re not his favorite (nor mine).
If you need something to remind you to take care of yourself, check this one out. If you’re looking for a way to get your young ones to eat more fruit and turn up while doing so, I think this more than accomplishes that. If you need a fun song about yummy food, I definitely recommend this one. Point is: check it out below and support dope music in all its forms. Be on the lookout for new music from Ran two weeks from now in the form of his Buddy’s Magic Toy Box album. The project, which is dedicated to and written for his new son, is sure to make you smile and nod along with the bars.
