Above, we’ve got the latest from producer/rapper/songwriter NappyHigh, MENACE. The 18-song LP plays as a who’s who of barred-up hip-hop. That’s because the range of artists heard over NappyHigh’s rich and cinematic beats goes from Mick Jenkins to YourOldDroog to Blu. Each piece of this puzzle presents its own story, its own reason for existing and its own collection of fire lyricism. NappyHigh’s beats fit every artist on this project differently, but they all fit. That takes a lot to do, create 15+ tracks that all feel different, even if they’re all within the same subgenre (grittier, anthemic boombap).
I’m here for this project because of the diverse lyricism we get here as well as the diverse collection of beats from the Cali native. Plus, I’m a sucker for good boombap. This project features nothing but great boombap-type music that’s familiar but still manages to be its own thing. Check out the entire project above, support dope music in all its forms and give props to your favorite producer(s). Your favorite rappers wouldn’t have the same oomph without incredible beat behind them.
