Okie Doke and Seefor Yourself Present A Booming Boombap Track with “Mike Jack Summer”

If you want some introspective boombap that’ll make you break your neck while riding in the whip, you could do a helluva lot worse than the amazing “Mike Jack Summer.” “MJS,” the newest from frequent collaborators Okie Doke and Seefor Yourself, is the perfect end-of-summer jam. That’s because it’s booming, nostalgic and also makes you take inventory of your own wins and lessons. I’ve also got to give props to Seefor, since he handled the production as well as the second verse.

Overall, this one is a bop. I also love the bars presented here. For example, Okie says “how can I trust a bitch, when I don’t even trust my shadow.” What I get from that is that the artists here want to win and enjoy those wins. However, they also realize that there’s a lot going against them–specifically how the world can throw a bag of lemons at you. Plus, it touches on the idea that, given how screwy the world gets, we even have self-doubt. But Okie Doke and Seefor believe in the concept of taking losses as lessons and improving because of those lessons. That duality is something I really appreciate.
