SØ and Typical DiV Ask “Therapy or a Bottle”

When working on one’s mental health, there usually comes a point where you ask “damn, therapy is expensive. Isn’t there some other way to cope?” Some people put their hurt into song (DMX comes to mind), some look inward and look to God, some cope in more unhealthy ways. SØ and Typical DiV’s “Therapy or a Bottle” looks at the latter. It does so in an anthemic way for people who’ve neared the end of their rope. Produced by SØ with raps handled by DiV, “Therapy” finds the duo lamenting over mental health, less-than-ideal situations, and the overall human experience. It doesn’t mince words or thoughts. Instead, it gives us a view of a man who’s trying to figure it out in life while life keeps changing the questions.

Featuring on their collaborative album, “Therapy or a Bottle” is gritty and honest if nothing else. For that, I applaud it. I mean, in the 2020s music world, we’re often (mis)led to believe that everyone’s taking care of themselves. Sometimes, you can’t afford it or you think that the therapist isn’t really hearing your issues. I’ve been there with a past therapist; it’s never fun and honestly can put you off of the whole dang thing. Balancing one’s mental health is one of the most unstable tightropes one can walk on. Even if you’re not dealing with a diagnosed mental health concern, just trying to stay optimistic can be draining. DiV’s verses find him looking inward for the answers while still wondering if he should drink his pain away. Again, people deal with traumas differently. There’s no set way for every person to follow–which is what the song basically gets at.

I won’t spoil the song’s content (much more), so I advise that you check it out below and support dope music in all its forms.
