Sometimes, our most artistic moments can come from empathy. This is what artist Fat Cat Affair did with “Empty Bed.” Partly based on an arguing couple next door, “Empty Bed” speaks a bit on the deterioration of a love, down to the point separation occurs. It also happens to speak on the way that sort of thing can also make you miss the good ol’ days of the relationship in its initial breakup stages. However, you eventually know you made the right decision.
I really loved the live instrumentation here, as it’s more emotionally right for the content of the song. It also feels a bit like those 1970s love songs, done through a lens of an Anderson.Paak. That’s especially because of the way the instruments build until they, along with the choir at the end, spill over and bring you into the more tender moments of an “I wish I could’ve done it differently” song. If you’d like to hear what a doomed couple may look like to the outside looking in, I really recommend this. If you want to hear some beautiful instruments, this one’s also for you. If you just want to see what “while my guitar gently weeps” means in an example outside of the original song, yeah, you need this one in your ears.
