When gritty hip-hop beats meet gritty-yet-still-wild lyrics, you get a track that’ll make me say “screw my length rule.” On “Credit Check,” Daemon flows effortlessly over Trackstar’s beat. And yes, when I refer to Trackstar, I’m referring to the cohort of Run the Jewels. In fact, Daemon informed me that this was Trackstar’s first run at production. I find that hard to believe because the beat is nigh perfect, both in mood and in thump. Lyrically, we get a song that challenges listeners and wack MCs alike to do better and go for better. That rings true in the musical arena and in the arena of life. I really loved the rhyme schemes presented here. Things get quite intricate throughout the song, which seemingly is par for the course. Considering that Daemon has seen his music used in TV, music and equality-pushing campaigns, you know that his words carry a certain weight to them.
