Dominique Fils-Aime Says “Give Me A Reason”

This one is a bit older than some of the other posts this week; blame one of my SOTB Sabbaticals. However, better late than never–especially when it comes to this melodic journey. Dominique Fils-Aime’s “Give Me A Reason” is bluesy, soulful, rich AF (it was recorded in Dolby Atmos) and just one of those tracks that delves into the human condition. I love Dominique’s voice, especially since it reminds me of a slight mix between Billie Holiday and Amy Winehouse. In other words, if you love artists making their vocals into another instrument entirely, this one’s for you.

I’m intrigued with what’s going on with Fils-Aime’s latest album, Our Roots Run Deep. She’s mentioned that the project speaks on a “desire to shed life on our intergenerational treasures rather than intergenerational trauma [while] using these treasures to address and heal trauma.” I’m here for that, especially because I’m all about growing and healing from past traumas. Heck, I’ve done a lot of it over the last few years myself. So anyone who’s on that sort of time, they’ll get my attention 9.5/10 times. Check out the track below and remember to support dope music in all its forms.
