Zims Presents “No Ceilings”

You want some bars over a conscious-leaning boombap beat? London-based Zims gives us this and more on the track “No Ceilings.” The track itself is a bit on the short side, clocking in at just over two minutes. As we know, songs under 2:30 tend to get declined for posting on SOTB. It’s the principle of crafting songs that stick with you more than a few seconds that’s the main reason why I have this unwritten rule. However, Zims’ emotions, rhyme schemes and overall command of the beat drew me in. All in all, it’s a helluva track that definitely makes you want to hear more from the Londoner. The visuals are a bit minimalistic, as they mainly feature Zims rapping out his story with limited human interaction in a room with some equipment and a mic. It’s definitely one of those “listen to the words, don’t get wrapped up (too much) in the look of it all. That said, I still rock with the video.
