This song takes a mix of Sean Jones’ rich vocals and a sample one of my favorite Marvin Gaye songs, “I Want You.” In doing so, Joel JJ Josephs captured both the old and new with his version of Jones’ “Weekend Lover.” There’s really nothing else I need to say about this remix. If you love beautiful vocals, Marvin Gaye samples and a mix between R&B, boombap and neo-soul, this one’s for you. Instead of directly emulating Marvin Gaye, Jones and Josephs make something familiar but distinct. It’s like October London’s homages to Marvin, but a bit less on the nose.
