Yiannis Alexander Presents “Get Down”

I fell in love with this one because of its vibe—and bassline. The fact that the lyrics make you want to dance and also find yourself a special someone is just an added bonus. As I’ve mentioned, I was born in 1988 but a lot of my musical taste comes from the late-60s and the ‘70s. What makes this one stand out is that it doesn’t try to “Uptown Funk” itself into a disco-esque track. No offense to Bruno Mars, mind you. However, that song could’ve used more actual singing (and less of the sing-rap a la Morris Day on a few of his classics).

Possible mainstream shade aside, this one is a bop. It’s a good “let’s play around until the main dish gets served” sort of sexy song. It doesn’t force its hand nor does it get weird. We just get a person who sees another person and thinks “damn, they’re sexy. Let’s see where the night takes us.” Check out the song above, remember to strap up tonight if you do have some fun and support dope music in all its forms.
