Above, we’ve got the latest (well, at least latest to me considering I’ve been away for about three months) from Jim Swim. Imagine “Monster” without the cringey lines from all four artists and more of a “revolt against the system” sort of song. This song is a two-minute tour de force like “Monster.” Lyrically and content-wise, Swim chooses to talk about the various ways “creatures” (i.e., people who don’t subscribe completely to mainstream mentalities) can upend the foolishness brought on en masse. which reminds me of what would’ve happened if late-90s Eminem kept his bars, was less angry and more alert to the world’s problems and sometimes crappiness due to groupthink mentalities.
Now while you don’t have to curse in your raps while selling records, I’m glad that Jim here opted to keep it clean. Instead of four-lettered words for anger at the system, he runs roughshod over hiveminds while also forging his own path. In a few words, I love this song. In a few more, songs like this and the ones I’ve highlighted thus far today? Those alternative-but-still-not-overly-experimental songs are, quite frankly, my jam. Check out the song above and remember to support dope music in all its forms.
