Ode Broham May Be “Way2Deep”

So, I’m starting to learn that, as a creative, I can never “retire” fully from the game. Like a Kendrick Lamar diss record, most creators ain’t like us (myself and you, the reader[s]).

I say all that to say “I’m back,” like Jordan when he picked up the 45.

References aside, let’s get into Ode Broham’s “Way2Deep.” Ode, a Canadian-American, sonically reminds me of a mix between Kid Cudi and early Chance. That’s the say “Deep” is a song that’s a bop, surface-wise. The song’s instrumental somewhat reminds me of how 2 Live Crew would sound if the group was more emotionally-charged, specifically the tempo and club music vibes throughout the production. Like Cudi and Chance, Ode’s song makes you want to enjoy the summer and live life while also having a bit of introspection. Because of that introspective lyricism, we also get one of those songs that sticks to you because of its dive into mental health. Specifically, Ode talks about feeling alone in a room full of people and overstimulation in a world where overstimulation is the default Life setting. Anyone who’s ever dealt with just wanting to get away and reconnect themselves with their self (IYKYK) will appreciate the honesty Ode gives us here.

This track appears on Ode’s latest EP. While this is my first time listening to the brother, I went in completely blind. What I got was an EP that talks with us versus him just talking to us. I appreciate that. given the subject matter and its presentation here, it’s easy to misconstrue meanings. I love that this project introduced me to a new artist, one that I’ll be on the lookout for moving forward. However, “Way2Deep” and its parent project also allowed me to reevaluate my own mental health and creativeness. I mean, hell. He brought me back out of retirement. Check out the i need an EXTENDED vacation and “Way2Deep” below and remember to support dope music in all its forms.

And yes, that feels good to say again.
