Showtime Ramon and ProjectPort Present “Ken Griffey Jr” from ‘Speed’ Album

See, I think that being a writer trumps my rapping for several reasons. For example, if I’m focusing on my own bars, I’m not going to fully be checking for everyone else’s. Either that happens or, since my ears and brain are thinking one way, then that one type of song takes precedence. I say that to say this: Showtime Ramon is equally smooth and pop-culture savvy. If you haven’t heard that in some of his other tracks, I suggest you check out his latest single “Ken Griffey Jr.”

Flow-wise, Ramon adopts a mix between a gruff flow reminiscent of folks like Roc Marciano with the smother-than-smooth “float over beats” of Mac Miller’s classic flow. On paper, it sounds a bit unnecessarily complex. However, that’s what makes it work on “KGJ,” because the song is full of references, punchlines and dope wordplay. That’s everything you could want from an artist, but it’s what makes this one a hit to me. It’s accessible while still seeming a bit mystical.. If you’ve never heard Showtime Ramon spit, I think that this is one of the best intros you could get.

This song appears on Ramon and ProjectPorter’s Speed collaborative effort. I think that you’ll like it, especially if you like “Griffey.” If I had to summarize the album, I guess you could say “it’s nerd rap for people who grew up on [or grew up like] Wu-Tang.” If that seems like your speed (pun intended), check this one out below and remember to support dope music in all its forms.
