On “Dream Girl,” we get a collaboration between the US (Gazebo) and Italy (VPC) to give listeners a boombap-heavy track about love, like, and everything in between. Lenny provides dope lyrics and smooth flows while the members of the Vibe Provide Collective craft production that sounds very sampled–but is completely original. In a way that reminds me of the “sample” on DMX’s “How’s It Going Down, “Dream Girl” feels vintage without being vintage and soulful in a way that samples often give tracks that extra “oomph.”
Lenny’s bars also feel a bit like LL meets Slum Village. He gives us a healthy dose of loverman raps with some great rhyme schemes. In doing so, we get a track about the woman of Lenny’s dreams, discussed in depth and quickly over the two-minute track. Here, the fact that the song is shorter helps the message (and love) seem into your earholes that much better and stronger. If you want some sample-esque sounds that aren’t sampled and praise-worthy raps? This is your jam. Check it out below and remember to support dope music in all its forms.
