I don’t know much about YA-IR or his music. I just know that it’s funky and has a real groove to it, one that makes me think about 70s experimental and psychedelic soul music. “Running from Yourself” finds the singer/songwriter speaking on embracing one’s past and present to provide positive gains for the future. I’m here for that message and would be so even if the song wasn’t reminiscent of the first time I heard Jimi Hendrix back in middle school. It’s funky, spunky and will make you shake your money(maker while also realizing that you can’t be your best you if you’re hiding parts of yourself). The grooves YA-IR employs here, especially with the guitar melodies, are great and will allow you to enjoy this while also moving up in the world. In other words, it’s that type of song that gets me going on a regular basis. After all, hustlers never sleep and neither do people who’re engaging in self-improvement. That sort of thing stays with you. Check out the song below and support dope music in all its forms. If you like “Running,” you should stay tuned for YA-IR’s upcoming 70s-influenced album.
