Like Joaquin and The Glowliners’ recent feature on SOTB, Wisoff and DUDETUNES’ “Quiet Fire” has a lot of throwback vibes to it. While it leans more sonically into Bruno Mars than Bootsy Collins (and Andre 3000 versus Sly and the Family Stone), the track is fire. And yes, I intended the pun. Sometimes, you just want to be a little cheesy and make a layup, dammit! Literary devices aside, I enjoyed the way it carved its own funky path, especially with those basslines. They were, in a few words, quite tasty. On top of that Wisoff’s vocals are rich, but also playful. It’s not a “serious” song, but it takes itself seriously. That’s equally true of the backing music. DT’s production and instrumentation here is quite funky and complements those vocals nicely. But enough of me, especially since it’s Sunday. Play this one, grab you a boo thang and support dope music in all its forms.
