Music You Can See, Aaron Day, 7K, and Vic Mensa Say “Blame This on Me” on New Release

Sometimes, being a one-man show sucks. It’s great because I know that everything I post is something that’s true and true to me. However, since I am me, I sometimes miss updates from artists about songs. How that comes into play right now is that this post is about a track that somewhat fell through the proverbial cracks. Please note that’s not a slight towards the music, more so a slight against my own inability to answer every response and email. Anyway, before I get too apologetic, Chicago “anonymous music project” Music You Can See recently hit my line with “Blame This On Me.” This track, which features Vic Mensa, 7000 (aka 7K) and Aaron Day, was one that was approved about a month ago. The song feels very lo-fi in its approach to love and romance. It’s also got a great deal of soulfulness. However, where this one really shines is its storytelling. Everyone involved–and every thing for that matter–helps put relationships into perspective.

In relationships, we sometimes go through pain and moments of “weakness” where we feel less than. Sometimes, we lose someone important to us because of our own actions. And even if the blame falls on another party, you’re still the one who picks up the pieces of yourself afterwards. This track speaks clearly and truthfully about heartbreak, while also giving us relatable lyrics and an overarching theme of “it gets better.” Vic astonishes here, as does everyone else involved. If you ever wanted to hear something along the lines of “love-centric chillhop with a borderline psychedelic edge,” I recommend checking this one out. I also recommend just giving it a listen for its story and what it has to say. As someone who’s been through their share of relationship problems over the years, I empathize with the message. It just so happens that the song, for a lack of a better term, slaps. To make matters even better, we’ve got two additional tracks on this release that continue some of the stories and themes presented on “BToM.”
