Kylie Auldist and The Waz Can “Love You Better” on New Remix

You can’t help but enjoy soul music. It hits you in the chest as hard and feverishly as it hits you in your earholes. I say that because Kylie Auldist and instrumentalist/producer The Waz create beautiful music on their “Love You Better” remix. This song originally appeared on Auldist’s latest album, This is What Happiness Looks Like. “LYB”‘s new mix blends lush soul melodies and vocals and a mix of funky production and instrumentation. Here, “Melbourne’s High Priestess of Soul” does what she does best. That is, Auldist blows listeners away with strong-yet-sweet vocals and honest-but-not-“gritty” songwriting.

On the instrumentation side of things, Waz brings everything together. I heard the original for comparison’s sake . The original is great as is and very powerful. I prefer the remix because it makes everything sound a bit more important and urgent. That’s because of the added production, from the beginning’s remixing until the revamped outro. It’s as if the duo here rebuilt the song from the ground up.

That fresh coat of musical awesomeness helps make this one a standout song on its parent project. For those who want to hear something within the same vein as “LYB,” this remix is a part of The Craig Charles Trunk of Funk Volume 3. That project is a compilation that is “akin to having [Charles] personally DJing in your own home.” The longtime DJ/poet/actor teams up here with veteran A&R Greg Boraman to get these grooves out into the world.
