South African artist SSY makes his SOTBMusic debut with the wide-spanning “Universe.” A dual-language love song (SSY sings and raps in English and Zulu), I appreciate the honesty that SSY brings here. He’s very honest about his love, his likes, and how much he feels that the love of his life is able to move mountains and still become one with the world. Overall, I just love this one. There’s a lot to love in this song’s universe (pun unintended). The lyrics feel heartfelt, the sound is smooth but also thumps as it needs to, and the melody engages my ears in a way that’s reminiscent of late-night house parties with the lights dimmed. I think that’s the biggest thing for me about “Universe”: it reminds me of being back in college or in my early-20s pressed up on the person I was dating. Heck, it reminds me of my current romantic endeavors too. Check out “Universe” and support dope music in all its forms.
