4KPHIL. and FatBoyJonesy Take a Ride through DC on “Granny’s Corvette”

In just over two minutes, 4KPHIL. and FatBoyJonesy take aim at the rap throne, mainstream hip-hop and the grind. This is all while paying homage to those days you’d ride with your folks through the city. The vibe I got from this track was equivalent to being eleven over West Baltimore riding in my stepdad’s 1970s Ford Maverick hatchback with its poor fuel economy and loud-ass engine. There’s something nostalgic, but fresh, about “Granny’s Corvette.” Fueled (pun unintended) by a wild and eventful trip to DC, “Corvette finds our two rhymesmiths trading bars about the state of the game while telling more about that DC trip. Beat-wise, the song brings up memories of Curren$y and a dash of KRIT mixed with the New York feel of a Method Man with the control each artist takes over the beat. Plus, the flows?! The flows were laidback, but they were incredibly impactful. It felt like the ’90s and the 2010s had a party in my ears and the result was a boombap-meets-Juicy J on “Bandz.” I get that’s a weird description, but I feel that’s the only one I can muster without spoiling things.
