From the very beginning, the song “Milan Flow” sounds very cinematic and demands your attention. That’s for two reasons. The masterly-crafted beat Samir provided and Nostra’s gritty, no-frills flow, create a song showcasing hip-hop’s wide range of influence and fandom. It takes us from the US to Italy and everywhere in between, just off the strength of its approach to bravado-based hip-hop. Nostra doesn’t just talk his ish, he backs it up.
And the video is a sight to behold as well.
Filmed on location in Milan, “Milan Flow” captures glitz, glamour and a good bit of opulence. However, it’s not opulence just for the sake of being “rich.” Lyrically, this one also reminds me a bit of a Griselda track or, for those who have followed me, a JihaD Scorcese track. That, for me, is what brings “Milan Flow” full-circle.
Scorcese was one of the first artists who really rocked with me from outside of the DMV (and Jahan was one of the first artists who hit me up on SubmitHub when I started using it to curate my submissions. Any song that can take me back to those days will always get a listen. It doesn’t hurt that “Milan Flow” is a banger by itself and Nostra gives us bars here. But, the overall sound takes me back to the middle-ages of SOTB (2014-2021) and it’s a great feeling.
