On “Time Zones,” trio of friends/bandmates Wake The Wild blend R&B, funk and pop to craft, well, a sexy song about love and expressing it. This is all while alluding to long-distance loves and those whirlwind romances people come into. After all, the heart wants what it wants and those sort of cliches are steeped in truth. Apologies for dropping this one during the Easter Holiday. However, the ability to find romantic love and have the time and situations to express that love? That’s a bit of a blessing in of itself. It may not be the exact blessing you had in mind right now, but it’s one nonetheless.
The reason why “Time Zones” works is mainly in its instrumentation. Yes, the vocals and lyrics are sexy. However, it’s the backing that helps make this one less about sex as just sex and more about expressing and experiencing love. It gives the song much-needed mellowed sensuality to balance the raw energy in the vocals and lyrics. The trio of artists have a feeling in their music that reflects that they’ve known each other for many years. It’s as if everyone knew where the others were going to go and it created a synergy you don’t often get–unless you’ve known your music partner for what seems like forever.
